Intercultural Learning: Managing Across Cultures

In our rapidly-shrinking "global village" virtually every organisation is operating in a multicultural context. thrive’s intercultural training very effectively enables organisations to make the most of the vast array of opportunities multiculturalism offers and alerts managers to the potential risks of ignoring the impact of culture changes.

Intercultural Training enables individuals and companies to:

• Articulate how culture of origin is viewed and appreciate how others may experience it.
• Challenge their own cultural assumptions and clarify how culture influences behaviour.
• Gain competitive advantage by harnessing the positive elements of a given culture and by anticipating the reactions of      others.
• Select the right person for the right job in an increasingly flexible international labour force.

Our training programme will help you find ways of integrating the contributions of your members and help you find solutions that add value because of cultural diversity rather than in spite of it.

In addition, Intercultural Training can help those who are facing the challenge of living in a new culture such as youth exchangees, asylum seekers or refugees. In these instances the training seeks to improve intercultural learning by enabling participants to:
• Articulate what living in another culture is like.
• Reflect on how cultural differences affect workplaces and relationships.
• Examine barriers to integration.
• Deal with expected increased levels of stress.
• Develop an action plan for living in a new environment.

Living in another culture is challenging, and in each interaction there are cues that signal powerful interactions. Our experience shows that these can either enhance or detract a situation. However, by examining our initial reactions and the stereotypes of others we can provide important signals to help cultural differences surface instead of allowing them to foment into rigid, alienating prejudice.

In appreciating another's culture we begin to explore and understand our own.
